I just built a more industrial one by using metal double gang box, Lutron dimmer, and an industrial extension cord. It is grounded and safer too. Oh, Lutron does sell a device for this:

The Credenza is only $12.00! http://www.lutronstore.com/dimmers/p-76-credenza-lamp-dimmers.aspx

I have a few of these on order, but I wanted to build my own since I had a few extra dimmers lying around the workshop.

Having difficulty locating this device at retailers. I live in Staten Island New York (10309). Any suggestions where I can get one as I need it for my daughters Science Fair Project. Please advise.

I've priced the beers in the mini-kegs like this one and for some reason, they're usually more expensive per ounce than the same beer in a can or bottle.

Not all of it is aluminum, so there is still going to be possible rusting issues. The teeth will have to be steel at least. In the above photo, the top jaw and adjustment nut is going to be made from steel.

I just found my cousin's '84 Redline 500A in my aunt's garage - she was going to throw it out. It was so covered in grime, I didn't know what it was, so I planned on cleaning it up and giving it to one of my daughters. As soon as I started cleaning it and saw the deep, rich chrome, I knew this was a keeper - sorry kids! It's barely used, with the OEM rear tire buzzed down to the cords and and the original brake cable broken, which is probably what side-lined it around 1986 or so. It's sat since. I'm going to replace the rear tire with a decent one, already fixed the cable, and I'm thinking of putting a chrome chain on it. It cleaned up very well and there are no scratches or dings in the frame or fork. Lightly used. I'm stoked. At 45 years old, this is one of the bikes we all lusted for in the day.
I stumbled across this website doing research on the bike. It's good to know others are into 'em as well.

Wow, this reads like my childhood... had kids with those same bikes in my neighborhood. I wish I could get back my 500a for my son to ride!

I still have my 1984 redline 500a in great condition. I was 9 years old when I got it. I rode it everywhere until I turned 16. In college I dusted it off and rode it to class. I love the 500a. I put on cw bars, odyssey six bolt neck, odyssey lay back seat post, and odyssey flip down pegs. (any one remember these). I also put on a odyssey bear claw brake, all done in 1984. I still have the original parts. I love the old days of BMX it was nice to see other people have fond memories of their 500a. As a kid I named mine renegade. My son who is 3 1/2 will some day be riding the 500a. Mine is the full chrome version. Even the stickers are in great shape, this was a well built bike, god knows how many miles are on it. I remember all the bikes in the neighborhood, mongoose, schwinn predator, Hutch, Haro, Team Murry, and GT, but everyone gave respect to the redline, I was so proud of that bike. My older brother had the same bike, but it got stolen. Mine survives in all its 1984 glory. I also had a crush on the redline PL20, that was the one bike that had me beat in the hood.

Waw this brings me lot's of memories,I am from ARUBA ( Dutch Island in the Caribbean) I remember I saw and ad in the BMX magazine back than and I fall in love with the Redline 500a in Chrome but the problem was that we only have on bike store on the Island and they only sell Haro, Hutch and GT Bmx bikes. I looked at the picture every day and only talked about the bike the hole time. Since I was 14 years old I went to the Store with my 18 year brother and ask to speak with the Manager to try to convince them to order one for me but since this was a different brand they never heard of it back than they refused. But i kept going to the store every other day and i didn't give up till i have convince them and after 5 to 6 months later they ordered one for me. The Store made me a deal that I have to leave the Bike in the Store for display at least 3 months and I agree which was good anyways because it cost me almost $400.00 and i needed time to come up with cash ( Car Washing and raking leaves in Neighbors Yards, Hahahah), boy i was happy, that's how Redline Bike's were introduced to my country, every body liked it and they started to order them like crazy, So I had the first Redline in Aruba, that bike was the most awesome bike i had.
